Saliendo del centro comercial el Amate nos dirigiremos carretera a Santa Ana hacia uno de los sitios arqueológicos más importantes, no solo del País, pero de América. Único en su especie, fue declarado por la UNESCO Patrimonio de la Humanidad debido a su importancia histórica. Nos referimos a Joya de Ceren. Un asentamiento indígena ubicado en el valle de Zapotitán cuyos vestigios son la única forma clara de entender la vida diaria de los indígenas residentes de la zona. Al finalizar en Joya de Ceren continuaremos hacia el centro ceremonial San Andres.
San Andrés es uno de los centros prehispánicos más grandes de El Salvador. Habría constituido una capital regional entre los años 600 a 900 d.C. en el periodo Clásico Tardío. Esta antigua comunidad cubría un total de 200 hectáreas o más y consistía un centro monumental rodeado por una amplia zona residencial común. Se cree que San Andrés llegó a señorear el valle de Zapotitán, y algunas zonas vecinas, como el valle de las Hamacas donde se encuentra San Salvador.
Departing from the Street mall el Amate, taking the high way to Santa Ana we will drive to one of the most important archeological sites, not only for the country, but for America. Unique in its kind, it was declared Worlds Heritage site by te Unesco in 1993 for its historical importance. We are talking about “Joya de Ceren” (the Jewel of Ceren). An indigenous settling located on the Zapotitan Valley whose vestiges are the only clear way of understanding the day by day living of the residents of the area. Finalizing our visit in Joya de Ceren, we will continue to the Ceremonial Center San Andres.
San Andres is one of the biggest pre-Hispanic centers in El Salvador. It may have been the regional capital between the 600 and 900 D.C. in the Late Classic period. This antique community covered around 200 acres or more, being a ceremonial center surrounded by a wide residential area. It has been thought that San Andres became to dominate the Zapotitán Valley and some neighbor areas,such as the Hammocks Valley where the actual capital city( San Salvador) stands.
